Our research focusses on the conversion of natural substrates by fungi, and has both a fundamental and a more applied component. The fundamental part of our research focusses on the understanding of the regulatory systems, metabolic pathways and extracellular enzymes involved in the conversion of natural substrates. The applied part of the research addresses topics like biomass valorization, fungal cell factories, alternative protein, production of biochemicals and ingredients, prebiotics, etc. Our research used a combination of (post-)genomics, bioinformatics, (molecular) genetics, biochemistry, and physiology.
